Shop Your Closet
By Danielle
I hit a breaking point last week…. I had no fall clothes. After spending a day at work obsessing over my poor choice in an outfit, I RAN to the store. 3 hours and too much $$$ later, I came home to lay out my new purchases.
What I did next is what I advise you to do before you go shopping, not after:
….I organized my closet.
This simple and somewhat obvious action proved that I did in fact have fall clothes. So for those of you who think you have “nothing”, don’t make my mistake. Put. The. Car. Keys. Down. I’m going to teach you a little secret I learned called “shopping your closet”.
Here are the steps:
1. Organize your clothing by type and color:
There are a few ways to organize depending on what you keep in your closet. I organized mine by tank tops, blouses, jackets, dresses, and dress pants. For my mom’s, I organized by tank tops, solid shortsleeves, dressy shortsleeves, knit tops, sweaters, and jackets. Within your categories organize by color.
This helps you to see what you have. Do you really think you can see that sexy silk camisole between two bulky sweaters? Absolutely not. Keeping an organized closet prevents those cute little shirts from hiding away.
2. Shop your clothes in storage:
There is a reason thrift stores exist and it is not because people cannot afford to shop at stores. There are plenty of stores that sell clothes at lower prices than thrift stores. There is something special about finding a modern way to wear an older piece. Designers do it all the time. Go through your old clothes. It is not what you wear, but how you wear it. Add some skinny pants and boots to that old oversized sweater and you’ve got a new look.
3. Discard unwanted items:
Don’t forget this step. There’s not much to say about it. We don’t like clutter. Get rid of items you are never going to wear.
4. Mix and Match what you have:
Now that your closet is organized, it’s time to have fun. What can you put with that grey blazer you thought you had no use for? You now have an array of shirts to choose from. You will be seeing your clothes in a new light. Another thing to try is having someone else go through your closet. Ask them what they’d put together. Sometimes we get preoccupied with our own notions of what looks good together. You’d be surprised at the many different ways you can wear your own clothes. If you still want to go to the store, go right ahead. But now you can make wiser purchases. Instead of saying “I need clothes” you can say “hmm I have a lot of neutral shirts, why don’t I buy a colored jacket to wear with them?” You will waste less money, spend less time returning items, and
love your wardrobe.

Tips From Tina:
As stated above, true beauty starts with your heart. If your heart has that healthy glow, then your face will show it. This begins with proper skin care. In order to have make up look good, I believe you must start with a fresh canvas. This was Mary Kay Ash's philosophy when she created Mary Kay Inc. more than 45 years ago. It is important that we teach our daughters to routinely cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize and protect. Then we can play with color!!! We only have one "skin". It is important to keep it healthy!! Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!! Your skin will thank you later in life!!!
Some women think as we age we should wear less make up. This simply is not true!! Let's face it---as we age our lips get lighter, our eye lashes and eye brows get thinner, and maybe we have some spots on our faces due to past sun damage. Now more than ever it is important to enhance your features. Just be careful not to have color set into any fine lines and use softer shades. Experiment!!! Have Fun!! This is also a time when we feel the need to hydrate!!! If you have not used moisturizer in the past most likely your skin is reminding you of this important step!!!
The new colors for the Fall are bright and daring. This trend is inspired by Big City sophistication translating into Urban Chic. Bold color is making a comeback using dark shades and bright colors for a dramatic contrast. For example intense Smokey eyes are very hot!! Mary Kay has a Limited Edition Metro Chic collection. It is an easy to wear collection which works with all ages and skin tones. This collection is great for bringing out self-confidence. The truth is, when you feel that you look good you will feel good!!! However, it is important not to go too overboard with color. If you are wearing a bold lip color then it is important to down play the eyes at bit and use less dramatic colors. With this new trend it is best to have just one bold feature and downplay the others.
Remember, a few simple steps that only take a few minutes can really make you look and feel your best! True beauty comes from within but having it on the outside is great too!!! You deserve to do that for yourself!!!

I've seen many beautiful things in my life and known those who were considered to be great beauties. But I have to say that one of the most gorgeous things I've ever laid my eyes on was a child eating an ice cream cone. Not a care in the world except for that treat quickly melting all over their face and hands, making a mess that somehow looks wonderful. Small gifts of beauty are all around us, if we but open our eyes to see.
